2013 Shiraz from Barossa

The Eden Valley region is renowned for the elegance of its Shiraz, and the Kyara estate grown “Bush Lawyer” Shiraz will not disappoint.
Rich dark berry fruits and plum flavours, lifted with white pepper and spice are complimented by a soft tannin structure resulting in an elegant wine of great complexity and balance.
Our winemaker Jo Irvine has skillfuly crafted our Shiraz to be the highest quality that the Eden Valley can offer. Great detail is taken through every stage of viticulture and wine making to ensure our wine expresses our single site estate vineyard and the season it came from.
We have dedicated our “Bush Lawyer” Shiraz to our ancestor Heinrich Fiebiger who was valued for his advice and wisdom. In 1878 he was relied upon as a “Bush Lawyer” during the formative years of establishing a community in the Eden Valley region.

The Vineyard

Our “Bush Lawyer” Shiraz is made from our estate grownsingle site vineyard in Keyneton, part of the Eden Valley wine region. The majority of the vines are over 40 years old, with a smaller recent planting in 2007. Simon Cowham manages our viticulture to ensure the fruit
produced gives the fullest flavour and complexity to express our vineyard. We love the elegance that our Eden Valley fruit gives our wine.

Background

After arriving in the Eden Valley region in 1861, our ancestor Heinrich Fiebiger was one of the founding men who petitioned the South Australian Governor to form a local council. Over 150 years later our family still thrive and live off the land in this area. After taking on the vineyard in 2012 we decided to dedicate the wines after the many roles Heinrich undertook during the formative years of establishing a community. He worked as a Bush Lawyer in 1878.

The Vintage

The 2013 vintage was harvested on 7th March, after a dry growing season with late finishing rain fall. Our vineyard is dry grown, giving the wine the fullest flavour. With this vintage being our first for Kyara, we were thrilled with the fruit that our vineyard gave us.
Care was taken to handpick this vintage once the grapes achieved between 14.0-14.5 Baume.

Our Winemaking

Our winemaker Jo Irvine skilfully uses our fruit to ensure it expresses our vineyard and the season it came from. She takes great care in every detail of the winemaking process producing an elegant yet complex wine. After harvest, the grapes are destemmed to an open top fermenter to ferment until dry. The must is then bag pressed and put into premium French oak barrels, with 30% being new. The wine is bottled after 18-24months of ageing to ensure the style retails primary fruit freshness with the new oak complexity and an integrated tannin finish.

Wine Profile

The wine displays a brilliant bright deep crimson colour and has enticing aromas of black pepper, mulberry, wild berries and splice. The rich dark berry fruits and plum flavours are complimented by a soft tannin structure resulting in an elegant wine of great complexity and balance.

Food Pairing

Whenever we sit down to enjoy our Bush Lawyer Shiraz, we always imagine savouring a piece of rib eye beef reared from the family farm or our local butcher, and complimented with tarragon infused butter.
