THE BENEVOLENT

Montepulciano

Our 2021 Montepulciano displays vibrant, rich deep purple hues with generous aromatics of ripe raspberries, all spice and plums, followed on the palate with dark red Morello cherries and a firm, lingering subtle tannin finish.

The Montepulciano is an Italian grape variety, which when grown in Eden Valley, creates a fruit driven lively palate of cherries and cranberries which gives away to a spicy aromatic finish.

Our winemaker, Jo Irvine, has expertly crafted our Montepulciano to be a true expression of the late ripening variety.

'The Benevolent' is named after our ancestor Heindrich Fiebiger, who committed a lifetime of generosity to his community and family. He was awarded a medal by his community as a token of appreciation for his many deeds of kindness..

The Vineyard

Our “The Benevolent” Montepulciano is made from a neighbouring vineyard to our property in Keyneton, part of the Eden Valley wine region. This unique variety Montepulciano is a relatively new to Australia variety which originated in Italy. Its a hardy variety which thrives in our rocky well drained soil and warm climate. Single vineyard.

Background

We have named our wines after our ancestor Heinrich Fiebiger, and the many roles he undertook in the formative years of settlement in the region. Our “The Interpreter” Rosè is named after Heinrich’s valuable asset as translator for public meetings in those pioneering days. Our family have remained in Keyneton, part of the Eden Valley wine region for over 150 years.
